Zaina is 10 years and she lives with her mother together with her other 5 siblings in a two roomed house. While Zaina was still a little baby she developed a small growth that later grew into a tumor but her mother could not afford the treatment costs to respond early enough. She is a peasant famer who does not own a piece of land to grow her crops but rents farm land and pays during harvest by sharing the crops harvested with the land owner as settlement for rent.
At the age of 3 Zaina’s tumor had grown so big that her mother struggled until she raised some money to take her to a near by clinic for the nurse to conduct a surgery. The surgery was successful but it left Zaina with a serious condition she has lived with for now 7 years. Her nerves were damaged during the surgery and now she can not control her stool and Urine. She dropped out of school because she was traumatized. She could not hold it any longer hearing her friends telling her that she was smelling. Her mother could not afford diapers even up to now. She uses pieces of cloths from old clothes. She lost hope and her mother too.
The first time we got to meet Zaina was during a Medical Mission in Eastern Uganda in the District of Namutumba. Zaina’s mother had been told of Irene’s story since their home is in a neighboring village. She heard how Irene’s tumor had been operated successfully and that she was free from cancer and back to school. She developed hope that her daughter will get helped too.
We arranged for Zaina to meet the doctor but the doctor said the condition was irreversible and that if she was to be operated, she would not be able to walk again. We have continued consulting different surgeons and still hope some thing can be done to save her. Her mother is scared of the second operation but we are doing our best to counsel her that we will find the best solution for Zaina.
Currently Zaina needs diapers to keep her safe as we raise funds to get a specialist for the possible and best alternative.
We need you in this Rescue mission to save Zaina and take her back to school. We need to give her hope and to protect her dignity.
